Vietnam and Myanmar have agreed to cement their multifaceted cooperation.

Myanmarese President Htin Kyaw joined his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang for talks on Wednesday evening, as part of his visit to Vietnam from October 26 to 28.

During their meeting, the two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of the two nations’ traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation over the past four decades.

Vietnam is currently Myanmar’s tenth biggest trade and investment partner, President Kyaw said, highlighting the efficient operation of the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Myanmar.

The Myanmarese government will provide all necessary conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in the country, especially in the fields of banking, telecommunications, aviation, mining, and tourism.

The two parties reached consensus on the enhancement of political and diplomatic ties by agreeing to increase all-level visits and contacts through all channels.

Collaboration in defense and security will also be magnified by the exchange of information and experience.

The two leaders vowed to boost people-to-people exchange and culture-tourism collaboration, believing that mutual understanding and similar cultural values are firm foundations for mutual trust and long-term bonds between the two nations.

They discussed measures to accelerate the growth of the ASEAN Community and promote the sustainable exploitation of Mekong River water resources.

Regarding the situation in the East Vietnam Sea, the two leaders pledged to promote peace, security, stability, and the safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in the region.

They called on relevant parties to refrain from the use of force or threat of violence, fully respect diplomatic and legal process, and settle disputes via peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The Myanmarese president met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the same day.

He also talked with representatives from several Vietnamese businesses.
