A delegation of high-ranking Ho Chi Minh City officials began a ten-day visit to Japan aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation on Thursday.
The delegation is led by Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh La Thang and consists of Le Thanh Liem, vice-chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, and leaders from several other departments.
The officials are scheduled to visit many Japanese cities, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Nagano, Matusmoto, Kobe, and Osaka, during the trip.
They will meet with Japanese leaders and officials from the countries’ localities, as well as work with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and several other local businesses and corporations.
Conferences on the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and certain Japanese provinces and cities are also set to take place on April 12 and 13 and will be attend by business representatives from both countries.
Upon his arrival in Tokyo on Thursday night, Secretary Thang and the city’s delegation paid a visit to the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan.
During the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong stated that the relationship between two nations has achieved many significant outcomes.
Many high-profile visits have been conducted between Vietnam and Japan so far in 2017, including Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko’s visit to Vietnam from February 28 to March 5, and Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe’s visit in January.
Vietnamese Premier Nguyen Xuan Phuc is also slated to visit Japan later this year.
According to Ambassador Cuong, Ho Chi Minh City has established positive ties with Japan and is an essential contributor to the two countries’ cooperation.
Secretary Thang also announced that Japan is currently ranked fourth among the top investors in the Vietnamese, city with over 1,000 projects worth about US$3.55 billion currently underway.
The official expressed his hopes that the Embassy of Vietnam will assist Ho Chi Minh City in strengthening its collaboration with Japan.
