Before the opening date of Investment Promotion Conference in Long An Province (17th October), in the afternoon of 16th October, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Government taskforce embarked on a survey trip to Long An International Port Project invested by Dong Tam Joint Stock Company at Tan Hoa Hamlet, Tan Tap Commune, Can Giuoc District, Long An Province.

Long An International Port the construction investment planning is divided into seven stages with a total investment of over nine trillion. It is expected to be completed and to be in operation at full capacity by 2023.

This project has an area of one hundred and forty seven hectares, comprising seven berths with the capacity for receiving ships whose load ranges from 30,000 to 70,000 DWT and five domestic wharves receiving the load of 1,000 DWT. It is believed Long An International Port is one of the sea ports with the largest scale in the South region.

Basically, the first stage has currently been completed and Long An International Port is capable of receiving ships of 30,000 DWT and will be put into operation at the end of 2016. By the end of 2017, the second wharf will be completed, increasing the load of ships to be received up to 50,000 DWT. The estimated capacity of Long An International Port in the first stage is 4.8 million tons of general cargo/year and 700,000TEU/year and will be developed at full capacity at 15 million tons of general cargo/year and 3.5 million TEU/year by 2023.

According to Mr. Pham Van Ranh, Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee, Long An International Port is conveniently-located, facilitating connection with HCMC and Mekong Delta provinces both by road and by waterway. The Port is only about 40km far from Ho Chi Minh City center by the National Highway No. 50, 30km from HCMC – Trung Luong Express Motorway, 12km from Ben Luc – Long Thanh Express Motorway, approx. 20km from Soai Rap estuary, etc. As a result, when the Port is put into operation, the transport costs will be much lower than those of other ports in the Southern key economic region.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised Long An Province and relevant ministries and departments for choosing that convenient location to build the Port. He further recognized the Investor’s efforts to overcome difficulties in order to speed up the construction progress and quickly put the Port into operation in support of the overall development of Long An, Mekong Delta and the southern key economic region.
