In the morning of 18 December, at Phuoc Vinh Dong Commune, Can Giuoc District (Long An Province), the inauguration ceremony was held to officially open and operate Tac Can Bridge located on Thanh Trung Dike – road connecting Vinh Dong Commune to Can Giuoc District, Long An Province.

Former Politburo Member, State President Truong Tan Sang; Politburo Member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government Truong Hoa Binh; Politburo Member, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Dinh La Thang; Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang; and leaders of Long An Province attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the bridge.

Tac Can Bridge is more than 100 m long, 7.8m wide with designed lkoading capacity of 13 tons. The bridge was built with reinforced concrete, worth more than VND 20 billion in total, funded by socialized capital resources.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang said: “This project was implemented to reflect the ethic principle of “drinking water, remembering who dug the well”, people unity, infused with the kindness of Ho Chi Minh City as well as organizations, individuals making contributions to this bridge. Tac Can Bridge is located on Thanh Trung Dike – Road (Anti-US Road), the main route connecting the Commune to the District, but it heavily deteriorated and was not safe for traffic.”

 During the war, this place used to be the base of Saigon – Cho Lon – Gia Dinh Regional – Municipal Communist Party Committee. In a visit to the revolutionary base, the task force of HCMC agreed with the policy to rebuild the bridge, and after nearly one year in construction, Tac Can Bridge was finally completed.

As one of enterprises regularly involved in community activities of Long An Province, Dong Tam Joint Stock Company also financed 50% costs of power line construction and more than 1,300 m3 of concrete worth more than VND 2 billion for the construction of Tac Can Bridge. At the ceremony, HCMC also donated VND 500 million to Can Giuoc District to take care of families under preferential treatment policy.

After the inauguration ceremony, former State President Truong Tan Sang, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Dinh La Thang; Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang, and leaders of Long An Province went on to survey the construction progress of Long An International Port invested by Dong Tam Group and planted memorial trees here

Moreover, in the presence of Party, State, and Long An Province leaders, Mr. Truong Tan Sang – Former State President opened the valve to kick-start the fresh water pipeline in service of production and daily living activities for residents at Tan Tap and Phuoc Vinh Dong Communes who had no access to tap water for hundreds of years and were forced to use rain water and water transported from the city by junks. This was considered as a historic landmark to all fellow residents here.

Long An International Port is planned for 7 phases of construction investment with a total investment capital of more than VND 9 trillion, scheduled for completion and operation at full capacity in 2023. The Port has an area of ​​147 hectares, consisting of 7 wharves capable of receiving vessels from 30,000 to 70,000 DWT and 5 inland quays with receiving capacity of 1,000 DWT. It can say that Long An International Port is one of largest ports in the Southern region.

Currently, Long An International Port has basically completed Phase 1 and can receive vessels up to 30,000 DWT. Expectedly, Wharf No. 2 will be completed by the end of 2017, increasing the capacity to receive vessels up to 50,000 DWT. Estimated capacity of Long An International Port in Phase 1 is 4.8 million tons of general cargo/year and 700,000 TEU/year and will operate at full capacity with 15 million tons of general cargo/year and 3.5 million TEU/year by 2023.

The Deputy Prime Minister praised Long An Province and relevant ministries in selecting the favorable location for port construction and appreciated efforts of the Investor in overcoming difficulties to boost the construction progress and put the port into early operation, contributing to the overall development of Long An Province, Mekong Delta as well as the Southern key economic region.
